Sprayed cork insulation kit
A simple and effective solution for your thermal, acoustic, and humidity insulation, with 2 options:
- Link to our sprayed cork tutorial (Do the insulation yourself)
- Link to our sprayed cork service (Insulation done by Combeing)
The kit includes:
- 2 bags of 6kg cork
- 1 spray gun
- 2 boxes of pigment (black and white)
For longer vehicles (e.g., Jumpy, Trafic, Transporter L2H1) or larger vehicles (e.g., Ducato, Jumper, Boxer, ...), consider one or more additional bags of cork. (Please contact us to verify the quantity)
Sprayed Cork Insulation Kit for Vans
Sprayed Cork for Campervans
Sprayed cork is perfect for campervans as it is optimized for small spaces and eliminates condensation and thermal bridges, which is the goal when insulating a van.
Indeed, the thermal performance of an insulator depends on its thermal conductivity coefficient (the amount of heat transmitted over 1 hour through a material 1 meter thick for a temperature difference of 1°C on either side of the surfaces) and its thickness.
In a campervan, the goal is not to have overly thick insulation to avoid reducing living space. Therefore, we need an insulator with an excellent coefficient and, above all, a coating that covers every corner of the cold walls of the utility vehicle to push the dew point outside the van.
Sprayed cork is thus the best insulator for campervans as its technical characteristics meet this specific need.
Aesthetically, the finish of sprayed cork is incredible; it revitalizes damaged or scratched bodywork over time. On new vans, the finish gives a warm decorative look suitable for campervans.
Performance of Sprayed Cork
Thermal Insulation
The thermal conductivity of Soliege has been tested at 0.039 W/mK (the ratio of thermal energy to the amount of heat transferred per unit of time). Where wood wool is tested between 0.036 and 0.042 W/mK.
Soliege is also resistant to temperatures between -30 and 180 degrees.
Acoustic Insulation
Soliege provides significant acoustic insulation with acoustic efficiency up to 19 dB on metal.
Humidity Insulation
The Soliege coating has been tested as effective in protecting against dew point and humidity.
10-Year Aging
The Soliege product has undergone laboratory testing to determine its aging over 10 years, guaranteeing its effectiveness for at least 10 years.
Manufacturing
This cork granulate comes from the manufacturing waste of the Landes forests.
The binder, a patented solution with secret ingredients, is safe for health. This cork has received the Excell Zone Verte certification.
How to Apply Sprayed Cork?
We have created a tutorial for sprayed cork application in vans that presents all the steps for applying sprayed cork in a van.
In summary, to apply sprayed cork, you need to:
- Protect and mask the utility vehicle before insulation.
- Prepare the sprayed cork mixture (cork bag, water, and pigment for color): everything is included in our van insulation kit.
- Spray the mixture onto the vehicle's surface.
- Apply a second layer of sprayed cork.
- For a smooth finish and optimal comfort, manual sanding with 240-grit paper is recommended by our expert.
What Compressor for Sprayed Cork?
The compressor for sprayed cork is not included in the kit. You will need to obtain one (from a neighbor or friend or equipment rental company).
We recommend a capacity of 90 liters with a pressure of 3 to 4 bars.
A classic compact piston compressor for DIYers or professionals is suitable for sprayed cork application.
What Spray Gun for Sprayed Cork?
Our insulation kit for vans includes a funnel spray gun, which is ideal for applying the product.
A half-moon opening even allows for work in a slightly tilted position, making it easier to spray the ceiling or roof of the utility vehicle.
This compressed air spray gun is perfect for large surfaces and ensures the cork is sprayed into all corners.
The funnel has a capacity of 6 liters with an ergonomic handle to ensure an ideal grip. The other hand is positioned on the trigger for precise application to the targeted surface.
Three interchangeable nozzles (Ø4.5mm, Ø6mm, or Ø8mm) are included and can be easily disassembled for optimal cleaning. We recommend the Ø6mm nozzle.
A 13.2mm compressed air connection is provided.
What Thickness of Cork?
Our sprayed cork expert typically applies 2 layers of cork.
This results in a cork thickness of about 3 to 4 mm on the walls of the utility vehicle.
We do not aim for a significant thickness as in a house when choosing sprayed cork. The main objective is to eliminate condensation by pushing the dew point outside the campervan.
What is the Price per m² for Sprayed Cork?
The average price per m² for sprayed cork is €80.
However, this depends on the number of layers applied and the total surface area of the utility vehicle's walls.
Indeed, the cost of the spray gun and the rental of the compressor will be more significant in the overall budget for a small campervan than for a large van.
